A Sufi’s dream about Majnun

A Sufi had a dream in which Majnun appeared in the presence of the Lord. God caressed Majnun with loving-kindness and bade him sit by his side.

Then he addressed Majnun: “Were you not ashamed to call me by the name of Layla, after having drunk the wine of my love?”

Sufi woke up in distress. If Majnu was treated so dearly by the Lord, he wondered, what had happened to poor Layla?

And as soon as he had this thought, God revealed to him the answer: “Layla’s position is exalted above all, for she kept the secrets of love concealed within.”
